Yesterday’s Register-Star included an eyebrow-raising correction.
A story from the previous week about Democratic election custodians being shorted on payments in relation to their Republican counterparts (covered earlier here) had found that
“in personal e-mails former Democratic Board of Elections Deputy Commissioner Geeta Cheddie repeatedly referred to Hudson City Democratic Committee Chairman [sic] as ‘Flippy.’”
The missing name above was that of HCDC chair Victor Mendolia. But the paper was reminded that this this “Flippy” moniker “was actually used to describe BOE Democratic Commissioner Virginia Martin.” (It appears Ms. Cheddie was an admirer of former President George W. Bush’s habit of assigning off-color nicknames to colleagues.)
Not noted in the correction was that a number of these “personal” emails apparently were sent from the then-Deputy Commissioner’s Board of Elections account, while at work on the public dime.
